Job Details
The Leader and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the House of Lords are looking for a researcher with an economic background to support them and their front bench team in scrutinising the Government's business and legislative programme. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a supportive and dedicated research team, working at the heart of Westminster and effecting real change through the legislative process.
Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to:
- Conducting research and producing briefings on legislative matters, policy issues and current affairs.
- Drafting questions, speeches and amendments to legislation in consultation with our frontbench.
- Assisting the wider team with other duties that may be specified from time to time by the Leader or Chief Whip of the Opposition, their Chief of Staff or Deputy.
Skills/Experience:
We are looking for someone with an economic/financial background who takes pride in carrying out their work honestly, reliably and diligently to the best of their ability. Applicants should have the following skills and attributes:
- Economic/Financial Background: knowledge of the economy and finance, through a relevant educational background or relevant professional experience.
- Parliamentary and Policy Knowledge: interest in legislation, parliament, policy, current affairs and the political landscape.
- Research Skills: ability to analyse and summarise complex information from various sources in to clear and concise written briefings.
- Writing Skills: ability to write accurate and coherent briefings and speeches on a range of topics, often to tight deadlines.
- Confidentiality: the upmost integrity, trustworthiness and discretion.

Candidates should be sympathetic to aims of the Conservative Party.
