Job Details

Claire Hazelgrove MP is looking for a committed and organised Caseworker to join her constituency office.

The role is hybrid with two days working from home and three days in the constituency office.

The Caseworker will support Claire to be an active, impactful and approachable MP. You will provide advice and support to local people on a range of issues, including housing and welfare, and manage a large caseload to help to resolve problems through communication with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and other organisations.

There is also a Senior Caseworker in the team to support this work and your learning and development.

Key responsibilities

  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from residents by phone, email, social media or face to face
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
  • Attend and assist MP advice surgeries and other relevant meetings, following up as appropriate
  • Support with arranging MP advice surgeries, including identifying and booking residents in for appointments and arranging appropriate venues across the constituency
  • Identify trends and produce relevant reports on issues faced by residents
  • Work collaboratively across the team on relevant project work to help residents more easily access support, including at relevant events, and to highlight the impact of casework in supporting residents
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with data protection legislation
  • Some work outside of the normal working hours and occasional work travel

Required skills and values

  • Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied caseload, and work well under pressure
  • Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Good IT skills including MS Office
  • Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard
  • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge in specialist areas
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of a small team
  • Discretion and professionalism
  • Sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party

Desirable skills

  • Previous casework experience
