Job Details

Sarah Bool MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant to undertake policy and parliamentary research along with some media handling too.

You will need to be a strong communicator with excellent oral, written, and research skills.  You will be responsible for supporting Sarah’s work in Parliament, contributing to parliamentary debates, liaising with the constituency office to ensure our case work is represented in our parliamentary work. You should have good political judgement, excellent writing skills, good research and analytical skills and be proactive and a team player.  You must also identify with the aims and objectives of the Conservative Party.  This is a role that requires a self-starter with experience of research, managing campaigns and managing deadlines effectively.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparing briefing packs on various topics and in depth research – including taking notes of meetings and drafting appropriate submissions
  • Preparing briefing notes for committees
  • Preparing parliamentary speeches
  • Drafting written and oral questions
  • Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
  • Give advice on policy issues
  • Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
  • Assist Sarah in her roles – currently on EFRA Select Committee, Bill Committees, PPS roles (Shadow Home Office and Attorney General) etc
  • Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
  • Writing letters to Ministers and external bodies on behalf of local residents
  • Liaise with constituency based and other organisations in support of Sarah’s campaigns.
  • Assist on the design and execution of regular constituency issue-based surveys.
  • Liaise with constituency based team on issues
  • London Diary management
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

The successful candidate will have parliamentary responsibilities but should know it is a job which has some constituency and administrative functions too.
