Job Details

Catherine West MP is seeking a motivated, reliable and compassionate Caseworker to join her team. The successful candidate will have experience of helping in their community and a strong interest in resolving constituents’ concerns. Strong writing skills are essential. Experience in casework is welcome but not required, as training will be provided.

This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, in Catherine West MP’s Westminster Parliamentary office, with regular travel and work in Hornsey & Friern Barnet, for surgeries and meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage a large and varied caseload, resolving issues through clear communication with government agencies, local authorities and other stakeholders, and keep constituents updated.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, guidelines, support services and casework handling.
• Draft and send professional correspondence to a high standard on behalf of the MP.
• Liaise with relevant groups, organisations, businesses and stakeholders and provide a vital link.
• Organise and attend constituency surgeries and meetings, take notes and ensure efficient follow up and resolution of all actions.
• Produce regular reports to identify common or emerging local issues and suggest proactive campaigns.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act.
• There will be occasional work outside of normal hours and travel.
• Contribute to the wider office team’s work, ensuring strong coordination between parliamentary activities and constituency priorities.

Person Specification:
• Experience of helping in their community, Parliament, local government or voluntary sectors.
• Excellent correspondence and communication skills.
• Knowledge of housing, welfare and immigration policies.
• Interest in supporting and resolving constituents’ issues.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines, be pro-active and work effectively within a busy team.
• Confident interacting with people at all levels, empathetic, tactful and with good judgement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
• Knowledge of Hornsey & Friern Barnet and its key local issues is desirable.
