Role Overview

WPI Strategy is seeking a motivated and analytical Economist to join our public affairs and economic consulting teams.

This includes producing new analysis and economic modelling to provide research content for our evidence-based public affairs activity, resulting in research reports, client presentations and events.

The successful candidate will work across a variety of economic modelling projects, and must be able to brainstorm ideas, engage with clients, and work collaboratively in a team.

Recent graduates and candidates early in their careers are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct economic research and analysis to support public affairs campaigns, policy development, and client strategy. The candidate must be able to translate economics and complex datasets into evidence pieces that are politically and publicly salient.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across economics, public affairs, and communications to deliver integrated client work.

Key Skills (Core Competencies)

Economic Analysis & Quantitative Skills

  • Strong grounding in microeconomics and macroeconomics.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse datasets; familiarity with statistical techniques.
  • Competence in Excel; growing capability or interest R, Python.
  • Experience working with public datasets.
  • Ability to build models, forecast trends, and conduct scenario analyses.
  • The candidate needs to be familiar working with quantitative datasets, statistical analysis and big data, most often from government and industry sources. These include ONS industry datasets (public spending, jobs, growth, productivity etc) and public attitudes polling.

Communication Skills

  • Communication and presentation skills are vital. Comfortable presenting findings internally and externally, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non technical audiences.

Desirable Skills

While not a requisite, we will favour candidates that have skills and experience on:

  • Advanced modelling experience.
  • Dashboard & data visualisation experience.
  • Experience working within government departments or in an economic consultancy, think tank or academic/research institution.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree e.g., Economics, Statistics, Data Science
