Young Citizens helps UK schools bring citizenship education to life through exciting democratic learning to light the spark of active citizenship for all young people. We specialise in engaging institutions to create and deliver inspired civic learning experiences, from the Mock Trials to Chance to be a Chancellor to Economic Experts in Schools. 

This is an exciting strategic role for someone who is driven, ambitious and energised by building highvalue partnerships, shaping external relationships and contributing to work at the heart of civic and democratic engagement.

As Business Development and Special Projects Lead, you will work directly with the CEO during a pivotal year for Young Citizens. You’ll lead income generation, strengthen influential partnerships and support our public affairs and external messaging. Joining us at a point of organisational growth, you’ll play a key role in positioning a scaling charity within a rapidly changing education and policy landscape.

Young Citizens sits at the intersection of education, democracy and civic life. This role offers an opportunity for someone interested in how organisations shape national conversations around citizenship, participation and education reform.

Who we are looking for…

You may come from a charity, gov't, policy, consultancy, start-up or social enterprise background: what matters is ability to demonstrate the criteria and fit your skills to this role.

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Entrepreneurial thinking, with some experience business development and income generation
  • Ability to design and secure commitments, instilling confidence and get results with high-level stakeholders
  • Highly-professional writer and communicator, able to produce strong proposals and pitch deck materials
  • Experienced in a similar role as a manager or senior leader, preferably a smaller team or organisation.
  • Excels at working closely with senior stakeholders demonstrating political and business nous, able to predict needs, and understands how to get results from varying types of supporters
  • Organised and detailed execution, able to own multiple priorities in a fast-moving organisation
  • Distinctly motivated and/or experienced in social impact, education, democracy or civic participation orgs
