Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and efficient team in a dynamic, fast-paced political environment. You will play a key role supporting Jon’s work in both the Constituency and Parliament, working within a small, professional and friendly team.
The role focuses on developing and delivering effective communications campaigns that convey key policy and political messages to stakeholders through digital and other channels. This includes creating and delivering engaging content, managing online platforms, and building strong relationships with local media and external stakeholders.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, proactive, and possess excellent communication and organisational skills.
Prior experience: We welcome applicants without prior experience in politics or public affairs. Backgrounds in community engagement, journalism, copywriting, online marketing, digital content, or graphic design are all relevant.
Location: Flexible - High Peak or Westminster
Hours: Flexible – full-time or part-time considered.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging, targeted communications across multiple channels.
- Develop and maintain a media content grid to ensure consistent, strategic and proactive content delivery aligned with key dates and priorities.
- Manage and update the MP’s website to keep it current, accessible, and relevant.
- Create platform-native social media content aligned with the MP’s objectives.
- Produce high-quality video content using video editing software.
- Write and distribute engaging press releases and newsletters highlighting the MP’s work.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local journalists and stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Chief of Staff and wider team to design and deliver local campaigns.
- Occasional out-of-hours work and travel may be required.
Essential qualities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated approach.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Commitment to collaborative working across both office locations.
- Support for the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Desirable:
- Experience in Parliament, local government, or political/advocacy settings.
- Video editing or graphic design skills.
- Experience in a communications role.
- Full driving licence.
