We are recruiting several External Communications Advisors to build and manage relationships with key stakeholders across England, including MPs, Mayors and other influential partners.

At the Environment Agency, we protect people, places and wildlife – from air quality and water management to habitats and soil health. As public interest in environmental issues grows, we are strengthening how we engage with stakeholders at local and regional level.

This is a people-focused role where you will plan and coordinate engagement activities, provide advice and information, and support effective partnership working.

About the role
You will scan emerging local issues, identify risks and opportunities, and build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders in your region. You will support the Area Director and Area Leadership Team to deliver a strategic, place-based relationship management approach aligned with national priorities, and work closely with national colleagues, including External Affairs and Government Relations.

What you’ll need
Experience in senior external stakeholder engagement or managing politically sensitive projects, with a proven ability to develop external relations strategies across government, private or civil society sectors. You will understand the local political landscape, communicate confidently under pressure, and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Your location in England will not limit your application – alignment to any Environment Agency office is possible.
