Job Details
Rachel Blake MP is looking to recruit a dynamic, proactive and process focussed parliamentary administrative assistant to join an ambitious team. Responsible for ownership of Rachels complex diary and inbox, the PAA will be managing contact with constituents, businesses and stakeholders from across the constituency.
The role is based in Westminster but has a hybrid approach, some travel across the constituency may be required.
Outline role description:
- Lead and maintain a highly professional administrative support function for the MP’s office
- Liaise with constituents, businesses and stakeholders including in parliament, within the constituency on the MP’s behalf as necessary
- Overall management of the Member's diary commitments, delegating tasks to others as appropriate
- Provide high quality, efficient and effective support to the MP and interest groups as required
- Collate all required information from team members to present to the MP
- Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them
Essential skills:
- Proven experience in diary and inbox management.
- Highly organised, efficient with an eye for detail
- Ability to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work both proactively & reactively often at speed
- Ability to work independently & to confidently use your own initiative, as well as work effectively as part of a team
- A completer-finisher with the ability to juggle a wide range of complex tasks
- Good with people & the ability to remain kind & polite with everyone
- Excellent written & oral communication skills plus administrative IT skills
Desirable experience/knowledge:
- Ability to get up to speed quickly with parliamentary systems inc. Caseworker
- Working in an MP's office or other similar busy office environment
- Handling confidential/sensitive information in a professional environment
- Organising events, visits, or community‑facing activities
- Producing briefings, summaries, or notes for meetings
- Stakeholder engagement & working with local organisations
- Knowledge of Rachel's constituency & her constituents' main priorities
- An interest in politics & knowledge of the role of an MP
- Alignment with the aims & values of the Labour Party
