Job Details
Mike Kane MP is looking for someone to join his parliamentary team in a policy support role, focussed on ensuring high quality and responsive policy communication with constituents.
Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a small team. A good telephone manner and strong written skills are essential. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, responsible, able to use initiative and capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
You will be efficient, self-motivated and organised. This role will suit someone who has strong IT and database skills, can work at speed whilst paying strong attention to detail and who thrives in a small, purposeful team.
Working in Manchester (remote working considered), you’ll provide executive support to the MP, Head of Office and Senior Caseworker – as well as leading on policy casework.
The following skills and experience are essential:
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills and confidence interacting with people at all levels
• Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a small team or individually.
• Strong political sensitivity and ability to use initiative when appropriate.
• Organised and able to prioritise a demanding workload to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
• Competent use of IT including proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Outlook and the internet;
• Able to deal with sensitive issues in a confidential and timely manner
• Knowledge of social media, including Facebook and Instagram;
• Able to deal with high volumes of correspondence, including proof-reading and sense checking documents alongside other workload;
• Good knowledge and understanding of local and national political issues and how Parliament works;
• Sympathy with Labour Party values.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
