Job Title: Parliamentary Coordinator

Working For: Baroness Kidron

Salary: £32,000 - £34,000 pro rata (depending on experience)

Length of Contract: Fixed-term contract. Five months: 1st March – 1st August (possibility to extend)

Job Details

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing parliamentary support to Baroness Kidron’s office. Baroness Kidron has a particular interest and expertise in tech, including online child safety, data protection, AI, and tech infrastructure. Baroness Kidron works closely with peers and MPs who have similar interests, and the role would suit an organised person with a desire to work with a broad range of people. They will answer to Baroness Kidron’s Senior Parliamentary Assistant.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Parliamentary monitoring. Identifying and sharing information about forthcoming bills and amendments of interest, relevant oral and written questions, parliamentary statements, committee hearings, parliamentary events, and other areas of interest.
  • News monitoring. Keeping up to date with news in relevant areas.
  • Legislation. Summarising key legislation and supporting the drafting of amendments.
  • Briefings. Preparing briefings for meetings with ministers and external stakeholders.
  • Communications. Writing press releases, providing statements to journalists, promoting Baroness Kidron’s work.
  • Organisation. Organising meetings with peers and MPs, including finding dates, booking rooms, and preparing and distributing an agenda.
  • Administrative. Carrying out administrative tasks and responding to queries.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience reviewing parliamentary legislation and drafting amendments.
  • Experience carrying out parliamentary and/or news monitoring.
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to work alongside a wide range of people and manage competing priorities.
  • Competent in MS Office, including Outlook.
  • Able to work independently.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of UK and international tech policy, including online child safety, data protection, tech infrastructure, and AI.
  • Understanding of parliamentary processes in the House of Lords.

The successful candidate should be prepared to work flexibly, as their work will be remote and on the parliamentary estate.
