The role
We are recruiting an enthusiastic and creative Communications Intern to support both the communications and day-to-day administration of a busy MP’s office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a portfolio while gaining practical experience in how a parliamentary office operates.

Alongside producing high-quality, accessible digital content, you will help keep core office functions running smoothly, including diary support, enquiry handling and general coordination. You’ll work closely with the team to capture, edit and publish content across multiple platforms, with a strong focus on video editing and graphic design, while also developing strong organisational and administrative skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Producing and editing short-form video content for digital channels
  • Creating high-quality graphics and templates
  • Supporting content planning and scheduling across digital channels, including drafting and editing copy for posts
  • Capturing content at events, visits and meetings
  • Monitoring digital performance and producing simple reports with recommendations
  • Handling and triaging incoming enquiries, ensuring timely, accurate responses and appropriate escalation
  • Assisting with diary management, meeting coordination and brief preparation
  • Providing administrative support including maintaining records and coordinating internal workflows and deadlines

Person specification
Essential

  • Strong skills in graphic design and content creation, including producing clean, consistent visuals and working from templates or brand guidelines
  • Excellent written English with strong clarity and accuracy
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Confident using Microsoft office suite and comfortable learning new systems quickly
  • Good judgement and professionalism, including handling sensitive information confidentially
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to support both communications and general office administration

Desirable

  • Experience editing short-form video for social media
  • Experience with tools such as Adobe creative suite or Canva
  • Basic photography skills
  • Experience handling enquiries from the public
  • Familiarity with parliamentary/political environments or public-facing communications work
