Job Details

UCL is one of the world’s leading universities, recognised for academic excellence, global impact, and a strong commitment to tackling real-world challenges. We are a diverse community where bold ideas are not only welcomed but expected - where thinking differently is part of our culture.

The UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (led by Professor Mariana Mazzucato) works with partners to develop a framework which challenges traditional economic thinking with the goal of creating, nurturing and evaluating public value to achieve growth that is more innovation-led, inclusive and sustainable. This requires rethinking the underlying economics that have informed the education of global public servants and the design of government policies.

This role provides strategic and operational leadership for the Strategic Economics Alliance, overseeing the end-to-end delivery of a complex, cross-cutting programme of research, policy engagement, and network-building activities operating across institutes, countries, and policy domains. Working in close partnership with the PI, Professor Mariana Mazzucato, and Co-PI, Dr. Carolina Alves, the postholder will be responsible for shaping delivery plans, establishing effective project management systems, and ensuring coherence, quality, and momentum across multiple interconnected workstreams. The role includes line management and team leadership, coordination with internal colleagues and external partners, oversight of budgets and resources, and responsibility for high-quality convenings and communications support. It also plays a key role in supporting fundraising, funder reporting, and strategic refinement of the initiative, requiring sound judgement, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical, high-impact delivery within a dynamic research and policy environment.
