Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an independent international organisation promoting freedom, independence and pluralism in journalism. Headquartered in Paris, with sections and bureaus in fourteen cities and a network of correspondents in 150 countries, RSF has strong international mobilization and advocacy capacity and significant influence worldwide.
Director of the London Office (UK)
Reporting to the Director General and working closely with the international coordination team, you will lead RSF’s London bureau, supported by a UK-based Advocacy Officer and headquarters departments. You will develop RSF’s activities and visibility in the UK, defending and promoting press freedom and the right to reliable information. This includes producing impactful publications, engaging regularly with government and public authorities, and managing projects with media stakeholders.
Main responsibilities
- Lead the development of the London office and secure funding for its activities.
- Manage relations with the RSF UK Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
- Supervise the team and oversee day-to-day operations, including accounting and financial reporting.
- Monitor press freedom issues, issue press releases on violations and propose appropriate actions.
- Implement RSF’s advocacy strategy with government, international organisations and media actors, and support priority global campaigns.
- Act as RSF’s English-language spokesperson and represent the organisation in interviews, events and meetings.
- Lead UK public relations in coordination with Paris headquarters, including dissemination of reports and recommendations.
Profile
Senior experience as a journalist or NGO/association manager, with strong fundraising expertise (trusts and foundations, high-net-worth individuals, corporate partners or events). Strong commitment to civil liberties, particularly press freedom. Proven management skills and in-depth knowledge of UK and international issues. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated experience in public speaking, including international media.
Conditions
London-based position (hybrid policy: 2 days remote). Permanent contract; right to work in the UK required. Start in March. Full-time; £60,000–£70,000 depending on experience.
