Job Details

Based in Westminster, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic, hardworking and supportive team, and support a very active MP with a wide and exciting range of tasks.

You will work closely with the team in Westminster and Stratford-on-Avon to deliver on a busy agenda, with scope to bring your own ideas and creativity. You will be encouraged to have good working relationships with the constituency team, who also get together outside of office hours to socialise.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft parliamentary questions, early day motions and debates, and submit them once approved by MP
  • Read and respond to campaign-based casework on a wide range of issues; draft template responses and send once approved by the MP
  • Conduct research on policy issues, legislation, constituency matters & prepare briefings & summaries for debates, committees & public engagements
  • Assist with comms processes – subtitle clips, generate draft social media posts, take photos and video of MP at Westminster events (an understanding of the Westminster media protocols is essential)
  • Develop draft speeches 24 hours ahead of delivery
  • Horizon-scan for opportunities and concerns; bring them to the MPs attention in a proactive way e.g. issue, solution, action)
  • Identify, develop, and assist in the delivery of local and national campaigns.
  • Monitor parliamentary business, track relevant legislation, advise on voting positions & potential amendments
  • Manage the tours and tickets allocation process for constituents.
  • Triage written post and ensure that it gets to the right person.

Work outside of the normal working hours, and within the constituency will be required on occasion.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who is sympathetic to Lib Dem values, who demonstrates a positive, proactive and can-do attitude to work, who has:

  • Outstanding written & verbal communication skills
  • A good understanding of the political landscape, party policies & parliamentary procedure
  • Strong research skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A genuine interest in public service
  • A commitment to prioritising constituents and serving them to the best of your ability
  • Proficiency with IT & office software
