Alex Mayer MP is seeking an experienced Press and Communications Manager.
This is a hands on, delivery focused role. The applicant will enjoy picking up the phone, securing and arranging visits, and turning the MP’s work into compelling local and regional media coverage. Top-notch political judgement and resilience is vital.
Quick to spot newsworthy opportunities, you’ll know your audience and produce tailored, sharp and engaging copy to a deadline.
Developing productive relationships with local stakeholders and journalists will be key.
Attention to detail matters. It’s down to you to ensure your MP arrives at every engagement on time and fully briefed. Afterwards, you’ll follow up to make sure activity in the constituency resonates in Westminster and vice versa.
As a key player in a small and busy office, there will always be important constituent correspondence to draft plus projects to manage including the annual Christmas card competition.
The role requires two days per week in the Leighton Buzzard constituency office, with the remaining days available for home working. This is a full time position, but part time, job share, and term time only applications are welcome.
Your experience:
- Experience of working in events, political organising or as a press officer or journalist
- A proven commitment to the aims of the Labour Party and the trade union movement.
Your skills:
- Excellent organisational skills
- First class communication skills both written and verbal
- A strong instinct for what makes a great news story
- Confidence in engaging with people
- An enthusiasm and pride in seeing your work in print
- The ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong political judgement
