An opportunity has come up in the constituency office of Catherine McKinnell MP for a Senior Caseworker. We are looking for an experienced caseworker, who will manage our complex caseload, on a wide range of national and local issues. They will also have responsibility for line managing two members of staff.
The role is constituency-based so working from our office in NE3 is essential, though there may be work outside of normal hours at times (e.g. for surgeries). Experience in casework or advocacy is desirable, as is any experience with Elected Technologies (caseworker.mp).
We are looking for a self-starter and problem-solver, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and confident engaging with the public. They will engage directly with individuals, local organisations and stakeholders to help Catherine to build strong local relationships.
The job description includes, but is not limited to:
- Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
- Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
- Evaluate, analyse and interpret casework data to ensure the MP is accurately informed of key issues and is aware of trends
- Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation
- Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
- Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner
- Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring
Essential Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Able to work to tight deadlines and pay keen attention to detail.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team or independently.
- Previous experience of handling casework, including immigration, housing, and the benefit system is desirable.
- Ability to manage a large and varied caseload under pressure and carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard.
- Able to delegate tasks appropriately amongst casework team
- Sympathetic to aims and values of the Labour Party
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in using a casework database such as Caseworker.MP
- Experience of speaking with members of the public over the telephone and face to face
- Full driving licence and car
