Role Overview
The Government & Parliamentary Affairs Officer delivers CCDH’s UK policy strategy on online safety, social media regulation, search and AI governance. The role focuses on parliamentary engagement, stakeholder management and coalition development to translate research into political impact.
Reporting to the Senior Policy & Public Affairs Manager and working closely with the Head of Public Affairs, the postholder leads core public affairs activity and strategic partnerships. The role requires strong political judgement, stakeholder management capability and the ability to convert complex research into clear policy engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support delivery of UK public affairs strategy on technology reform. Build and manage relationships with MPs, Peers, advisers, officials, regulators and civil society stakeholders. Organise parliamentary briefings and events, monitor legislative and political developments, and draft briefings, consultation responses and regulatory submissions.
Maintain stakeholder records, track engagement and measure political impact. Strengthen parliamentary engagement processes and collaborate with communications to align policy and media activity.
Develop and coordinate coalitions and advocacy activity aligned with research outputs and legislative milestones. Produce partner briefing materials and support mobilisation beyond Westminster. Contribute to rapid response activity on emerging digital policy issues.
Collaborate across research, communications, development and campaigns teams to align partnerships with public affairs objectives. Represent CCDH in external forums as required.
Person Specification
Minimum seven years’ relevant experience in UK public affairs, parliamentary engagement or government relations. Strong knowledge of the UK legislative and regulatory environment, particularly in technology and online safety.
Experience building coalitions within advocacy or civil society contexts. Strong drafting and communication skills. Demonstrable ability to build cross-party relationships and manage multiple priorities. Experience working in or closely with Parliament or government and an established UK civil society or tech policy network desirable.
