Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive Communications Officer to join our busy team, supporting Fleur Anderson, the MP for Putney, Roehampton, Southfields and Wandsworth Town.
You will support Fleur and her campaigns by publicising her work to constituents and wider audiences through a range of channels, including social media, the website and the press - involving her constituents in campaigning for change together.
The role will also involve supporting with events and parliamentary work, including Fleur’s work on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
This is a fast-paced role in a dynamic and hard-working team, working to make a difference for the people of Putney.
The role is based in London with the post-holder splitting their time between the Westminster and constituency offices.
Key tasks:
- Produce and deliver a communications strategy.
- Produce high quality video and graphics content appropriate for the intended audience, to include targeted messaging.
- Create and deliver weekly media plans (including social media).
- Monitor local and national media and engage with journalists.
- Lead on key campaigns (currently on transport and health).
- Manage Fleur’s website.
- Support Fleur’s parliamentary work through proactive publicity and communications.
- Produce press releases and articles for local/national media outlets.
- Draft regular email newsletters.
- Draft print materials for example leaflets and letters to constituents.
- Ensure the tone of all digital and print materials aligns with Fleur’s values and priorities.
- Assist with the organisation of constituency events, such as coffee mornings.
- Support the wider work of Fleur’s office as required.
Essential qualities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated approach.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
- Commitment to collaborative working across both office locations.
- Video editing / graphic design skills.
- Experience in a communications role.
- Experience in Parliament, journalism, local government, NGO campaigns or political/advocacy settings.
- Support for the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Desirable qualities:
- Knowledge of Wandsworth and Putney.
- Foreign affairs knowledge.
