The Builders Merchants’ Federation (BMF) is the trade association for businesses in the building materials’ supply chain in the United Kingdom & Ireland. Since 1908, we have represented builders, plumbing & heating, timber and other merchants and manufacturers who make and deliver building materials, home improvement products and civils & drainage systems. Our 1,010 members have combined sales of over £52 billion, employ nearly 193,000 people, and trade from over 5,600 branches.

The BMF is an economic trade association that exists to foster business-friendly conditions for its members. Policy and public affairs mean influencing parliaments, governments and others to explain the role, value and importance of our members - and the BMF itself - in delivering to construction, house-building and property repair & maintenance customers.

Job Purpose
 to assist in the formulation, delivery and communication of the BMF’s agreed policy positions and public affairs’ objectives;
 to understand and advocate the needs of BMF member companies to help them run their business - notably by canvassing their views and answering incoming queries;
 to keep up-to-date with- and be able to inform BMF member companies about - changes in public policy, regulation, taxation & public spending that affect their business;
 to engage and influence elected or appointed members and public officials to advocate the BMF’s views and agreed policy positions;
 to conduct research & analysis into existing policy or emerging proposals - namely by collecting & interpreting evidence and being able to present it clearly & concisely
 to act as the organising secretary to the BMF Transport & Distribution Forum.
