About the Role

Jenny Riddell-Carpenter MP is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to support the office with a high volume of policy-related constituent enquiries.

This role will focus specifically on responding to policy correspondence received by the MP. The successful candidate will draft clear, accurate and empathetic responses to constituents on a wide range of national and local policy issues, ensuring that enquiries are handled efficiently and reflect Jenny’s positions and priorities.

This is a part-time role that would suit someone with previous experience working for a Member of Parliament in a policy-focused role, who is comfortable working independently and managing a high volume of written correspondence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and respond to a high volume of policy enquiries from constituents, ensuring responses are timely, accurate and reflect Jenny’s policy positions.
  • Draft responses to both routine campaign-style emails and more complex or bespoke policy queries.
  • Conduct research across a wide range of policy areas to ensure responses are well-informed and up to date.
  • Work closely with the office team to prioritise and manage policy correspondence.
  • Liaise with government departments, agencies and relevant organisations where required to support responses.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience working for a Member of Parliament, ideally in a policy-focused casework or research role.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policy issues clearly and empathetically to constituents.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage a busy inbox with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 27 March 2026
