Job Details

Uma Kumaran MP is recruiting a full time Caseworker to join her small and busy team.

The role will include providing information, advice and support to constituents in Stratford and Bow on a variety of issues and liaising with both local councils, Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to help resolve matters on behalf of constituents.

Key responsibilities:
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media, or face-to-face. Ongoing communication may be required.
• Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
• Draft responses to constituents.
• Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.
• Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
• Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members.
• Manage and monitor casework enquiries received by social media.
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Personal specification:
• Previous experience of handling casework, either in an MP’s Office, the Civil Service, or a third sector organisation such as the CAB is desirable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in interacting with people at all levels and in a variety of circumstances.
• A compassionate person with a strong sense of justice, a natural ability to empathise with others, and a determination to fight for fair outcomes.
• Ability to adapt and work effectively as part of a small team who manage diverse and varying workloads collaboratively.
• Ability to carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard.
• Being a self-starter with a demonstrable record of taking initiative.
• Ability to manage a large and varied caseload under pressure.
• And understanding of the values and aims of our team and the member of parliament
