Job Details

Matthew is looking for a full-time Communications Officer to join his busy Westminster team. This is an exciting opportunity to support his work as the MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, including taking on responsibility for improving his external communications to ensure that his constituents have a greater awareness and understanding of his work and how it is benefitting them. The role will also involve supporting the organisation of events, in Westminster and the constituency.

Job description

  • Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency
  • Produce online graphics and video content, publicising Matthew’s work in the constituency
  • Evaluate the impact of external communications activity
  • Manage Matthew’s website contents
  • Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of constituents, the locality, and Matthew
  • Draft print materials when appropriate, including leaflets and newsletters

Person specification

  • Experience of producing high-quality, engaging visual media (photography and video) for external communications
  • Experience of Adobe Creative Cloud or other editing software
  • Organised, motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with the wider office
  • An ability to quickly adopt Matthew’s writing style in order to prepare and draft content
  • A good understanding of Parliament and the political landscape
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
  • Previous experience of a similar role in a parliamentary office or other political environment is desirable but not essential

There may be a requirement for the role holder to occasionally work outside of normal working hours, including assisting with events with Matthew as requested and travel to the Greenwich and Woolwich constituency. The role holder will have the option to work from Westminster, home or a combination of both.
