Salford City Council is strengthening its governance arrangements as part of its Governance 360 improvement programme and is now recruiting a Team Leader (Democratic Services) at Grade 4C.

This role will provide day to day operational leadership within Democratic Services and play a key part in embedding improved governance practices across the organisation.

The post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced democratic services professional to move into a people management and service leadership role, while remaining closely involved in operational delivery.

About the Role

As Team Leader (Democratic Services), you will:
• Provide day to day leadership and line management of Democratic Services Officers.
• Ensure the effective operational delivery of Democratic Services, including committee cycles, scrutiny support, agenda planning, report assurance and publication of papers.
• Maintain high standards of statutory compliance, transparency and good governance.
• Support and embed service improvements arising from Governance 360, translating change into practical, day to day processes.
• Act as a point of advice and guidance for officers, Members and partners on democratic and governance matters.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, professionalism and values based leadership.

This is a hands on leadership role, balancing people management, operational oversight and service development.

Who We’re Looking For

• Strong experience in Democratic Services or local authority governance.
• Confidence in leading and supporting staff, setting standards and managing workloads.
• A sound understanding of committee governance, scrutiny and decision making processes.
• The ability to contribute positively to service improvement and change.
• Strong organisational skills, political awareness and professional judgement.
• A collaborative, proactive and solutions focused approach.
