Job Title: Parliamentary Researcher

Working For: Fabian Hamilton MP (Leeds North East)

Salary: In line with IPSA scales

Length of Contract: 6 months with a view to becoming permanent

Job Details

Key responsibilities:

• Support Fabian in his parliamentary roles, including all APPGs and his role as a UK Trade Envoy. In particular, APPG Human Rights, APPG Soft Power and APPG Cycling and Walking.
• Draft replies to policy enquiries from constituents.
• To produce and present high quality written reports and briefing notes.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed, particularly on areas of interest to Fabian. Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues.
• Political horizon-scanning anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and political opportunities.
• Be present on the estate during parliamentary sitting days – mainly Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to accompany Fabian to meetings and take notes for further action. There may be a requirement for the post-holder to work outside of normal working hours, including assisting and attending events with the MP as requested.
• Be engaged on Fabian’s ongoing parliamentary campaigns.
• To advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions, motions and legislation to be put to the House.

• Previous Parliamentary experience and knowledge of Parliamentary procedure (required)
• Strong political acumen (required)

• The ability to work often under pressure and to tight deadlines (required)
• Excellent time-management and teamworking skills (required)
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party (required)
