Job Details

Jack Abbott, MP for Ipswich is looking for a motivated, compassionate and organised Caseworker to deliver professional and timely advice to Ipswich residents. This is a part time role based in the constituency office (0.6 FTE).

•Handle casework correspondence from constituents, drafting responses and providing advice and support on a range of issues (e.g. housing, immigration, benefits) through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others.
• Manage own caseload, ensuring all cases are handled compassionately, confidentially and in a timely manner, keeping accurate records in line with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
• Monitor case progress, ensure follow-up actions are taken, and work with the Senior Caseworker where appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, support services and casework procedures.
• Liaise with relevant groups, organisations, businesses and stakeholders.
• Assist with surgeries and meetings, providing support with follow-up actions.
• Contribute to the wider office team, ensuring coordination between parliamentary work and constituency priorities.
• Some out-of-hours working and occasional travel may be required.

Person Specification

• Polite, confident and empathetic approach to public engagement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence working with people at all levels.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise a demanding and fluid workload.
• Able to handle issues confidentially.
• Competent IT user with full proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and online research.
• Experience working with the public and handling difficult or emotive situations sensitively.
• Awareness and understanding of current political issues.
• Interest and willingness to learn about casework areas such as welfare, pensions and immigration.
• Able to work effectively in a small team.
• Previous experience in community work, Parliament, local government or the voluntary sector is desirable.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
