Job Details

Jack Abbott, MP for Ipswich is looking for an enthusiastic and responsible individual to work in Westminster. Experience of working in Parliament is essential. This is a part time role based in Westminster (0.6 FTE).

Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Prepare and present results for briefing notes, committees and parliamentary questions.
• Advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions, motions and Parliamentary procedure.
• Undertake research and monitor relevant local, regional and national issues and media to support the MP’s work.
• Deal with complex queries, complaints and casework on the MP’s behalf, including drafting letters.
• Engage with local and parliamentary stakeholders, leading on project work as required.
• Support with management of the MP’s Westminster diary, advising on effective use of time.
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation and its impact on the constituency.
• Produce and present high‑quality written reports, briefing notes and professional advice.
• Undertake research on subjects as directed and draw on research by others, including the House of Commons Library and external groups.
• Some out‑of‑hours work may be required, including attending events with the MP.

Person Specification:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence working with people at all levels.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work proactively under pressure, meet tight deadlines and prioritise a demanding workload.
• Competent IT user with full proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Understanding and interest in current affairs and policy issues.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Able to work effectively in a small team.
• Previous parliamentary or other relevant experience.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
