Job Details
Tom Rutland MP is seeking to recruit a Constituency Support Officer to join his team on a full-time basis, to support him with his work on behalf of the constituents of East Worthing & Shoreham.
This is an ideal opportunity to support an active & engaged MP, where you will be involved in all areas of Tom's work, with opportunity to contribute & work collaboratively.
The role includes the management of policy enquiries & developing effective communication & campaign strategies, engaging with local stakeholders & working on projects & campaigns to support the MP’s work in the constituency.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Managing the MP’s inbox
- Research & draft responses to constituents on policy and campaign issues.
- Support wider communications objectives via mass mailing.
- Work collaboratively to identify & organise community engagement projects.
- Establishing effective working relationships with local stakeholders.
- Undertake research to ensure MP is accurately informed on key issues affecting relevant interests.
- Assist with research & projects.
- Assist the Senior Communications Advisor as required.
- Assist with arranging & attending events.
- Horizon scan to identify opportunities to pursue topics of local importance & to progress priority campaigns.
Person Specification - Essential:
- Exceptional written & verbal communication skills & the ability to produce high-quality copy.
- An interest in current affairs & policy issues.
- Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of how to use social media, websites & email.
- Understanding of how to produce graphics & content.
- Experience of researching & presenting information in an easily digestible format
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to use own initiative
- Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task & able to meet tight deadlines
- Commitment to the values of the Labour Party
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in Parliament or with MPs
- Knowledge of how to analyse online metrics to improve future communications
- Experience of using Adobe and Canva
- A full UK driving license
- Good all-round IT skills
- Ability to work out of hours on occasion
