Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and professional Constituency Support Officer to help Victoria Collins MP serve her constituents in Harpenden & Berkhamsted. This would include a mix of casework, events management, and occasional local comms, as well as other support for constituency working with the team in Harpenden & Berkhamsted and in Parliament.
Responsibilities include:
Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
Draft responses to constituents
Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
Follow up on social media queries and comments
Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
Help organise local events in the constituency
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Skills required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, reactive environment
Able to work independently and use initiative, as well as collaborating effectively within a small team across constituency and Westminster
Discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive, confidential, or politically complex casework and constituent matters
Ability to learn quickly
Awareness and understanding of local issues affecting Harpenden & Berkhamsted, and the ability to quickly get up to speed on a wide range of policy areas
Desirable - experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging content
Desirable - experience working in a casework, advice, or constituent-facing role, ideally within a political, public sector, or voluntary/community environment
Desirable - experience managing events and/or projects
Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values
