Job Details
Rachel Hopkins MP is looking for a motivated and organised Caseworker with experience to join her constituency team in our town centre office. You will work with the Senior Caseworker and Office Manager to ensure that our constituent’s cases are dealt with promptly, professionally, and accurately. The Caseworker serves as a first point of contact for constituents providing information, advice and support on a wide range of matters, including housing, benefits, health, education, and immigration. You will manage your own caseload, liaising with local councils, government departments and others, to help resolve matters for our constituents.
We are a small and collaborative team and can provide flexible working arrangements for the right candidate. This post is part time; hours are negotiable between 22.5 and 27 hours per week, over a minimum of three days.
Key responsibilities
• Handle casework queries from members of the public by phone, email, or face-to-face
• Ensure cases are logged, monitored, progressed, and all identified actions are taken
• Ensure all cases are dealt with sensitively, confidentially and accurately, and in a timely manner in accordance with our policies and data protection legislation
• Ensure that all cases and decisions are properly documented, with all interactions noted, and followed up as appropriate
• Support the delivery of constituency surgeries (in person and remote) and following up as appropriate
• Undertake general administrative duties to support the work of the office team and the MP
Skills and Experience
• Previous experience of handling casework, such as in an MP’s office, public sector, a third sector organisation such as the CAB, or equivalent is essential
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills when interacting with people at all levels
• A strong attention to detail with the ability to manage a large and varied caseload
• A can-do and proactive attitude with a demonstrable record of taking initiative
• An understanding of and sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
• Knowledge of the Luton South & South Bedfordshire constituency, and local issues which may be relevant to constituents would be advantageous
• Experience with Elected Technologies (caseworker.mp) is desirable however full training will be provided if needed
