Job Details
Helen Maguire MP is looking for an energetic and driven caseworker to support a well-established casework function in her busy constituency office. Working both from Westminster and the constituency, this is an opportunity to help make a real difference to people's lives in Epsom & Ewell.
The caseworker will work alongside the Senior Caseworker and wider team and be expected to work collaboratively as well as independently.
The position requires excellent communication skills; the ability to speak, write and listen well. And strong administrative and organisational skills to manage a busy workload.
Responsibilities
- Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
- Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
- Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
- Draft responses to constituents on both policy and personal matters
- Research various government policies and global developments to aid responses
- Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
- Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
- Assist with MP meetings and follow up as appropriate
- Analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and wider team
Required skills and experience:
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public
- Ensure that casework is completed and records kept to a consistently high-standard.
- Manage a busy and varied task list, ensuring that enquiries are prioritised appropriately and escalated to others as needed
- Flexible and adaptable to ensure constituents, the MP and other team members receive the best possible support
- Strong IT skills
- Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values and committed to getting the best outcome for every constituent
- Strong research skills and a strong understanding of the political landscape
