Job Details
Peter Lamb is looking for an excellent candidate to join his busy team as a caseworker in Crawley.
Working under the supervision of a Senior Caseworker you will respond to constituents on a range of issues, including immigration, housing, education, welfare, finance and health. You will also respond to policy and campaign issues raised by constituents, working closely with the MP and the rest of the team.
We are looking for an individual who is sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Responsibilities will include:
• Attend/assist with constituency surgeries and meetings.
• Manage and progress a varied portfolio of casework, including logging cases, taking appropriate actions promptly, monitoring progress, analysing patterns of enquiries, and producing reports.
• Liaising with Government agencies, councils, the voluntary sector and other organisations to help resolve cases.
• Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, drafting emails and letters to a professional standard.
• Drafting policy correspondence to constituents on policy issues in line with MP’s position.
• Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act and our Privacy Policy.
• Providing administrative support.
Essential skills:
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a polite, confident and emphatic approach to public engagement.
• Ability to develop and maintain up to date knowledge of Government policy and legislative proposals, and use this to draft policy responses.
• Excellent IT skills, including the ability to use a casework tracking system (training given), MS Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet and Intranet.
• Motivated to work independently as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
• Good office admin skills.
• Good telephone and face to face manner and the ability to demonstrate patience and empathy.
• There may be a requirement for the role-holder to work outside of normal hours and to travel for work occasionally.
