About the Role

A Labour Member of Parliament is seeking a motivated and politically engaged Parliamentary Intern to join their Westminster team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in Parliament, develop core skills, and contribute to the work of a busy MP’s office.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Parliamentary Assistant and the constituency team in Scarborough supporting a wide range of parliamentary and administrative tasks. This is a developmental role ideal for someone at the start of their career who is eager to learn and passionate about Labour values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the MP and Senior Parliamentary Assistant with parliamentary research and briefings
  • Preparing summaries, policy notes, and background materials
  • Assisting with casework administration 
  • Managing inbox queries and correspondence
  • Providing general administrative support
  • Helping with event logistics, stakeholder engagement, and parliamentary meetings
  • Monitoring media, parliamentary business, and relevant policy developments
  • Supporting with communications, including social media and monthly newsletter

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong commitment to Labour values
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take initiative
  • Interest in politics, public policy, and parliamentary processes

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in research, policy, or political environments
  • Understanding of parliamentary procedure
  • Experience working in fast-paced or professional settings
