Job Title: Policy Adviser – Wales (Maternity Cover)

Working For: The Country Land and Business Association (CLA)

Location: Wales Office (Builth Wells, LD2 3SY)

Salary: Depending on Experience

Length of Contract: 9 Months Fixed Term

Job Details

The CLA Cymru team represents and supports rural landowners and businesses across Wales, delivering member services, events and communications, alongside leading political lobbying and policy work to strengthen the rural economy.

We now have an exciting opening for a Policy Adviser to join our team on maternity cover. This role will work particularly closely with the Director Wales and the Policy Team.

Policy Support

The primary policy areas requiring support will be:

  • Tourism
  • Housing
  • Rural crime

As a pivotal Senedd election year, this role will support the policy and external affairs teams in delivering the manifesto’s key messages to a new Welsh Government. Priorities include securing changes to policing budgets to better address rural crime; calling for a holistic review of tourism policy, particularly a reduction in the 182‑day holiday letting rule; and seeking a reversal of the tourism levy alongside a reconsideration of the proposed licensing system, all of which risk harming rural businesses.

This role requires a strong understanding of the regulatory frameworks affecting these sectors, with the ability to clearly articulate our priorities in writing, draft consultation responses, and prepare papers for committees.

Advising Members

You will provide high‑quality advice to members, both verbally and in writing, across a range of rural policy and land‑based issues. This includes responding to enquiries accurately and promptly and ensuring all advice is properly recorded on the CRM system in line with CLA service standards.

Beyond the core requirements of the role, you will also work with the communications and external affairs teams to develop lobbying campaigns for the policy areas you lead.

What you’ll bring to the role:

The person we are looking for must be:

  • Motivated and enthusiastic
  • An excellent communicator who can work well within a small team
  • Have excellent written and grammatical skills

There will be a requirement to work out of our office in Builth Wells (for a minimum of two days a week), and availability to work flexibly and attend meetings and events across Wales when required.

Working arrangements:

This role is suitable for a full time junior level, or a part time mid - high level experienced individual. If you require more information about the hours and pay, please contact us.

Closing Date: 5 May 2026

Interview/Start Dates

There will be two stages to the interview process:

First stage interviews will take place online or face to face on Friday 15th May.

Second stage interviews will take place in our office in Builth Wells on Thursday 21st May.
