Job Details

John Glen MP is looking to recruit a part-time caseworker (0.4 FTE) to be part of his constituency team, based in his Salisbury office. The caseworker will play an important role in John’s office, supporting John to help some of the most vulnerable people in his constituency. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team making a real impact for the people of Salisbury and South Wiltshire.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. This role requires a flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to deal sensitively and empathetically with casework. Hours to be worked can flexibly be agreed upon appointment, although some Friday working is a requirement of this role.

Requirements:

  • A highly motivated staff member, with a positive attitude and ability to work collectively as part of a team
  • Experience of casework, a public facing role or working directly with the public
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence interacting with, and advocating on behalf of, a wide range of people
  • Clear and concise letter writing style
  • Good attention to detail and ability to prioritise their workload
  • Good IT skills, including experience with MS Office applications
  • Good knowledge of the Salisbury constituency

Desirable:

  • A driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Sympathetic to Conservative party values

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Answering enquiries from constituents and progressing casework as required
  • Managing a large caseload of complex cases from members of the public by phone, email or face to face
  • Logging cases on our casework management system, monitoring progress, and ensuring data is held and processed in accordance with regulations
  • Ensuring that casework is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately
  • Liaising with Government agencies, local government departments, voluntary sector and other third parties
  • Organising and participating in MP surgeries
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant policy and legislation affecting core casework issues relating to benefits, housing and immigration
