Job Details

Jonathan Davies MP is looking for an experienced caseworker with motivation and compassion.

This is a full-time role based in Jonathan’s constituency office in Belper, Mid Derbyshire. Interest from those wanting a part-time role is also welcomed.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft well-written representations to public bodies, government agencies, businesses, other organisations, and residents for the MP.
  • Assist with more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required.
  • Engage with government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.
  • Assist with constituency surgeries and other local meetings.
  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Ensure records are kept, and that information is managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation.
  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and report them to the office manager.
  • Assist with the work of other colleagues as required – including administrative tasks.

Person specification

  • Experience of a public-facing customer service or casework role, ideally one that includes representing underrepresented or marginalised people.
  • Competent using IT – including casework management systems, Microsoft Office, email and internet.
  • Existing knowledge and willingness to learn about relevant casework areas – including education, welfare, housing and health.
  • Strong written skills, with an ability to write accurately and to different audiences
  • Polite, confident and empathetic approach to public engagement.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise, plan and respond to a high volume of diverse work.
  • Highly motivated individual who can manage and prioritise a demanding workload, take initiative and meet deadlines.
  • Use creative thinking to problem solve.
  • Reliable, diligent and professional in always representing the MP and office.
  • Able to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party, and able to articulate its key policy positions and values.
