Job Details
Chris Webb MP is looking for a new Policy Caseworker in his Blackpool South constituency team.
Responsible for managing a busy caseload, you will need excellent organisational and communication skills and be flexible and calm under pressure. You should have a strong understanding of the main issues facing constituents in Blackpool South and a commitment to ensuring casework informs Chris’s work, visits, and relationships.
Principal Roles and Responsibilities
• Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
• Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face
• Draft responses to constituents
• Work with others on the team to schedule, arrange and publicise MP surgeries
• Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate findings in reports and communication with the MP and team
• Ensure each case is handled promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
• Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all actions are taken
• Maintain records in line with data protection legislation
• Occasionally work outside normal hours and travel as required
• Undertake any other tasks required to support the MP
Person Specification
Experience
• Previous experience of working in a casework or similar capacity
Skills/Abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to manage own workload and prioritise effectively
• Ability to handle issues confidentially and sensitively
Knowledge
• Confident using IT, including casework management software
• Knowledge of GDPR and data protection
Personal Attitudes
• Political sensitivity and understanding of the local context
