Claire Hazelgrove MP is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Constituency Support Officer to join her local office.

Supporting Claire to be an active, impactful and approachable MP, this role will proactively lead on visits and events, including "Coffee with Claire" and "Pub Politics"; initiate, draft and submit relevant press releases to media; build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders; and respond to residents’ inquiries.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Lead on the planning and delivery of and attend the MPs' events including 'Coffee with Claire' and 'Pub Politics'
  • Proactively plan relevant local visits and meetings, and present strategic options to the MP, including linked to key policy announcements and local campaign priorities
  • Respond to invites from local organisations and individuals
  • Prepare high quality briefings for the MP ahead of visits
  • Attend visits and events to support the MP, capture notes and relevant content
  • Build and manage stakeholder relationships with organisations and individuals
  • Attend constituency meetings without the MP where relevant, as a representative from her office, and follow up as appropriate
  • Produce relevant press releases around visits and events, and wider constituency work, liaising with the media, meeting deadlines as appropriate
  • Deal with large numbers of queries from local residents, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to fac
  • Draft responses to constituents on a wide range of topics
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
  • Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
  • There will be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours at points, particularly when staffing events, and travel for work occasionally. This will be compensated for via TOIL
  • Support the wider work of this small team as needed
  • Be sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
