Job Details
Taiwo Owatemi MP is seeking a proactive and creative Communications Officer to join her Coventry North West constituency team.
This role leads on communications across constituency and parliamentary work, ensuring clear, consistent messaging and strong engagement with residents, stakeholders and media.
The successful candidate will take a strategic approach to communications, identifying opportunities to turn local issues, casework and community concerns into effective messaging and campaign activity. The role works closely with the wider team to support engagement, strengthen the MP’s local profile, and ensure communications aligns with wider political priorities.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead delivery of communications across constituency and parliamentary work
• Manage social media, newsletters, website and press output
• Draft press releases, briefings, speeches and opinion pieces
• Monitor media and social activity, identifying trends and opportunities
• Build relationships with local, regional and national media
• Support media appearances and prepare briefing materials
• Identify opportunities to turn local issues and casework into campaigns
• Work with the team to support engagement and campaign activity
• Analyse feedback and data to inform messaging and priorities
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends or travel
Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Experience in communications, PR, journalism or political/campaign communications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
• A proactive and creative approach
• Confidence engaging with media, stakeholders and the public
• Understanding of the political landscape and Labour Party values
• Understanding of how communications supports campaigning and public engagement
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, fast-paced team
