Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant
Working For: Rachel Taylor MP (North Warwickshire and Bedworth)

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000
Length of Contract: Permanent (following 6-month probation period)
Job Details
Key responsibilities:
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
- Assist in writing external communications including speeches
- Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and locally
- Diary management
- Advise on policy issues
- Help draft amendments for reports
- Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, and Westminster where required
- Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
- Project management and project work
- Provide generalist admin support
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
- Supervise staff members where appropriate
- To advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House
- Undertake research on relevant subjects
- Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify potential impacts from the research work and disseminate effectively
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Additional responsibilities:
- Occasional visits to constituency and support on constituency matters as required
- You may be required to undertake such other duties from time to time as may reasonably be required
Person Specification:
- Ability to manage a demanding workload including high volumes of correspondence, independently and in a timely and efficient manner
- Excellent research, writing and communication, organisational and administrative skills
- Knowledge of parliamentary functions and processes, including working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including constituency impact
- Political acumen and understanding of UK Government policy and political processes
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of the North Warwickshire and Bedworth constituency
- Demonstrable knowledge of one or more of these policy and Rachel Taylor MP interest areas: Sport and Physical activity, Women and Equalities, LGBT+ / transgender rights, Freight and logistics
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
