Job Details

Nick Timothy MP is looking for a full-time Parliamentary Assistant to join his team in Westminster.

This is an entry-level parliamentary position supporting Nick in his role as MP for West Suffolk, and a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in politics, public affairs, communications or policy.

This role will involve helping Nick’s office respond quickly and thoughtfully to a high volume of enquiries from constituents, and would suit someone with a positive, can-do attitude. A reliable and conscientious approach, with a strong work ethic, is essential.

Responsibilities will include drafting correspondence to West Suffolk constituents, researching policy on both local and national issues, and supporting Nick’s wider communications work.

Requirements
• A genuine interest in helping constituents
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to complete work quickly and to a high standard, often under pressure
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritise effectively
• Willingness to undertake a wide range of tasks and support the team as required
• An interest in current affairs and sympathy with the aims and values of the Conservative Party
• The ability to work with sensitivity, discretion, and strict adherence to data protection legislation

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Dealing with enquiries from members of the public
• Drafting policy and casework responses to constituents
• Analysing patterns of enquiries and producing reports
• Logging and monitoring casework to ensure all actions are completed
• Assisting with research projects
• Attending parliamentary and constituency events as required

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
