Job Details
Michael Wheeler, Labour MP for Worsley & Eccles, is pleased to be recruiting for his second summer internship programme. This programme is aimed at young people aged between 16 and 24 from the Worsley & Eccles area, however, all suitable candidates will be considered.
This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable political experience for a motivated individual who is looking to work in this field.
The paid internship will run for six weeks and will be based between the Worsley & Eccles constituency and Westminster.
Key Responsibilities:
· Undertake a range of tasks to support Michael in his role as a constituency MP
· Work with the team, providing support and gaining experience across several areas of work
· Research key policy areas and provide briefings and reports to Michael and the team
· Assist with speech writing and drafting written and oral Parliamentary questions
· Deal with standard queries from constituents over the telephone, face-to-face or by email
· Draft casework and policy responses to constituents
· Work with the team to monitor and update Michael’s social media presence across multiple platforms, producing high quality online graphics and video content
· Work with the team to keep Michael’s website up to date, drafting new articles and other updates
· Assist with and attend constituency advice surgeries
· Attend other meetings with Michael and/or other team members
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
· A keen interest in politics and shared aims, values and objectives with the Labour Party
· Previous experience of working with a team to achieve results
· A positive and friendly attitude
· Good research and/or casework skills, with experience in a paid, educational or voluntary capacity
· Previous experience of creating content for social media
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
