Job Details
James Naish MP is looking for a skilled Senior Parliamentary Assistant to lead on his Westminster activities, and to support his Rushcliffe office with the delivery of key campaign projects. The successful candidate will:
- Oversee and lead all parliamentary procedures including drafting and submitting written parliamentary questions, 10 Minute Rule Bills, Petitions, Urgent Questions etc.
- Identify political, policy and campaign opportunities in Westminster
- Develop proactive campaigns around these, in conjunction with James’ Rushcliffe office
- Prepare high-quality briefings and draft questions for parliamentary business, including Urgent Questions and Ministerial Statements
- Monitor and respond to emerging risks and / or fast-moving issues
- Produce targeted communications, including policy newsletters
- Support all policy and some constituency casework, ensuring timely, high-quality responses to constituents
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including charities, businesses and community groups
- Support James’ work on Select Committees / All-Party Parliamentary Groups / with the Labour Rural Research Group / other organisations
- Plan and support social media and digital content in collaboration with the Communications Officer
- Triage and process Westminster enquiries and correspondence daily
The role will be based in London.
The successful candidate will be strategic, creative, focused, have great time management skills and effective in times of potentially high workloads. They will also be digitally fluent and able to create clear, well-written and precise content. Political knowledge and interest are essential, and political experience is helpful, with aims and values sympathetic to the Labour Party.
