Job Title: Senior Parliamentary Assistant

Salary: In line with IPSA scales (London £40,324-64,677)

Job Details
Key responsibilities:
• Support the MP in his parliamentary role, as the Minister for Security.
• Political horizon-scanning to anticipate what advice or action may be required; to proactively identify problems and resolve them, as well as opportunities.
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation and its impact on the constituency.
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Undertake research on areas of interest as directed.
• To produce and present high quality written reports and briefing notes.
• Monitor relevant local, regional and national media coverage online and through social media and brief the MP on relevant issues.
• Prepare and present results for the purposes of press articles, statements and social media.
• Draft replies to policy enquiries from constituents.
• Deal with complex queries, complaints and casework on the MP’s behalf, including drafting and signing letters.
• Have final signoff on all relevant delegated areas from the MP, for example constituent casework
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Engage with local and parliamentary stakeholders, leading on project work as required.
• Support with management of the MP’s Westminster diary, advising on effective use of time. Attend meetings on the MP’s behalf when required.
• Undertake supervisory responsibility as required.
• Be present on the estate Monday to Thursday. Scope to work from home on Friday’s. There may be a requirement for the post-holder to work outside of normal working hours, including assisting and attending events with the MP as requested.

• Previous Parliamentary experience and knowledge of Parliamentary procedure (required)

• The ability to work often under pressure and to tight deadlines (required)
