Job Details

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, is looking to recruit an experienced, well organised and politically aware Constituency Support Officer to join his constituency office based in Solihull.

The successful candidate will support Neil’s work in in the constituency, working alongside a dynamic team based in the constituency and in the Westminster Office.

An ideal candidate will be familiar with the constituency and have a good knowledge of local issues. A candidate will be willing to work hard, learn from others, and be a good team player.

We are open to candidates at different stages of their career. This role could suit someone experienced, or someone earlier in their career with the drive and potential to develop into the role.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Deal with a large range of constituency queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public.
  • Undertaking research and gathering of all relevant information to assist with resolving of constituency casework and policy related work.
  • Critically analyse patterns of enquiries from constituents and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members.
  • Monitor social media and the website.
  • Produce graphics and video content for the constituency.
  • Monitor local media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required.
  • Undertake proactive and reactive communications with all media.
  • Organise and coordinate events, surgeries, and constituency meetings, working alongside and assisting other members of the constituency team.

Candidates should have the following skills and qualities:
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload.
• Awareness of central and local government structures, and other relevant services.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong digital skills and understanding.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Strong research skills.
• A keen interest in politics and current affairs.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Additional Information
• The role may require occasional evening and weekend work.
• You must have a full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• Some travel between Westminster and the constituency will be required

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
