Salary: £27,218 – £35,000

Job Details

Claire Hazelgrove MP is seeking a proactive, highly organised and creative Parliamentary and Constituency Assistant to support her work championing and communicating effectively with local people.

You will play a central role in connecting local concerns with opportunities for national parliamentary work and campaigns – supporting Claire to ensure that constituency issues shape her priorities in Parliament, alongside communicating national policy updates clearly and effectively with local residents in a timely way.

This role is based in the constituency office, with occasional travel to Parliament as required.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage Claire’s Parliamentary diary, including responding to meeting invites and proactively arranging them as needed
  • Proactively stay up to date on national, regional and local policy announcements, sharing this and working with colleagues to shape constituency and Parliamentary work, including: emails to residents, press releases and social media content, campaign activity and casework
  • Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and proactively identify and advise the MP on key policy implications, including for the constituency
  • Proactively review upcoming Parliamentary business and suggest opportunities for the MP to further local issue-based campaigns and casework, and suggest and support approaches for the MP to take on these beyond upcoming business
  • Draft letters and emails, including to Ministers and residents, to a very high standard and with strong attention to detail
  • Organise occasional events in the constituency and in Parliament
  • Attend relevant events, visits and meetings with Claire in the constituency, alongside meetings held online and occasionally in Parliament
  • Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships, locally and in Parliament
  • There will sometimes be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
  • Be sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
