Job Details
Debbie Abrahams MP is looking for a candidate to join her well-established, friendly and busy constituency team as a caseworker. There may be a requirement for the role-holder to work outside of normal hours and to travel for work from time to time.
This is an opportunity for someone with excellent casework and communication skills, who works well in a small team and has a desire to help find solutions to problems. You will provide advice and support to constituents on a wide range of areas, including housing, welfare, health, and communities.
Flexibility to work on the occasional evening and weekend will be required, which will be compensated with time off in lieu.
Responsibilities will include:
• Attending constituency surgeries and meetings and follow up as appropriate.
• Managing and progressing a varied portfolio of casework, including logging cases, taking appropriate actions promptly, and monitoring progress.
• Liaising with third parties to help resolve cases.
• Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, including drafting letters, emails and documents.
• Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
• Providing administrative support for the office.
• Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, emails and face to face
• Gather relevant information to resolve or progress cases
• Respond professionally to routine correspondence and enquiries by email, telephone and face to face from constituents, the media, and third parties
• Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate
Essential skills:
• Excellent interpersonal, team-working, oral and written communication skills, with a positive and flexible approach.
• Excellent IT skills including ability to use a casework tracking system (the office uses Caseworker software), MS Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet and Intranet.
• Ability to draft correspondence to a professional standard.
