Job Details

Joe Robertson MP is seeking an experienced Senior Parliamentary Assistant/Researcher.
The role covers research, policy, communications and administrative support, requiring a strong understanding of UK political affairs and Isle of Wight issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Knowledge of Parliament and previous experience with an MP or similar role is desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide generalist admin support such as diary management.
• Update and manage the MP’s social media and online presence where required.
• Engage with the media, fostering good media relationships and supporting the MP’s external communications.
• Assist in drafting external communications, including speeches, briefing packs, articles and responses.
• Develop and maintain knowledge on parliamentary business, advise on current policy issues.
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business.
• Undertaking research on complex subjects, defining and organising research priorities and meetings.
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues.
• Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
• Work closely with the Office Manager and the constituency office

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Person Specification:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
• Strong organisational skills, including diary management and administration.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint, with knowledge of data protection.
• Able to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a small team.
