Job Details

The Consumer Legal Association (CLA) is a new, not-for-profit membership body created to represent the claimant legal industry and those who depend on it. The CLA is looking for a full-time public affairs and policy adviser who, reporting to the CEO, will help shape policies and campaigns and provide hands-on support to the board of directors and the Head of Policy. Primary tasks will include:

• Monitoring media and stakeholder announcements, keeping members abreast of relevant opportunities and issues to advance the CLA’s profile

• Engaging with politicians, policymakers and regulators to represent the interests of CLA members

• Undertaking research on issues relevant to the CLA, including attending industry events and drafting briefings and working with third parties such as research companies and others

• Drafting responses to consultations from government bodies, regulators and others

• Leading the CLA’s social media activity and managing the website

• Assisting the CEO and Head of Policy with media work

• Organising and participating in meetings with the board and CLA staff, members and other stakeholders

• Virtual and traditional events management. 

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is a proven self-starter who takes the initiative, brings drive and ambition to the role and is able to engage with potential new members

• Has direct experience working with government departments, regulators, politicians and other policymakers

• Has excellent research skills and the ability to distil and summarise complex materials

• Has grit, determination and a willingness to stretch themselves in order to learn and develop

• Has excellent organisational, technology and communication skills, including in oral and written English

• An interest in civil justice issues is highly desirable.

Location: the CLA operates remotely, although meetings in person would ordinarily take place in locations in London and Manchester and we may add London office accommodation in future.

Package: negotiable but the role will be full time and include 25 days’ paid annual leave. Salary will be commensurate with experience but as a guide the package will be c£40k.

We will seek to conduct initial interviews interview remotely or in London soon after the closing date. Subject to this, a written test and a further round of interviews, we would like to set a start date as soon as possible after this.
