Job Details

Rt Hon Sir Mel Stride MP, Shadow Chancellor, is seeking an enthusiastic Personal Assistant to join him and his busy Westminster office. Key to this role will be direct support to Mel Stride in the planning, implementation and follow up of his visits to the constituency. This will include leading the visit to Central Devon, including driving (a full UK driving licence is required), and coordinating a wide range of visits across a broad geographic area, ensuring that detailed briefs are prepared and in place.

The role will also provide support to Mel’s team members assisting with the smooth running of the Westminster office, covering the full spectrum of parliamentary activities, including, administration, casework, diary management, internal and external communication, social media, video editing and press releases. The job holder would also need to ensure that constituent enquires are recorded and responded to correctly, in line with GDPR.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out the following duties as part of the office team:

  • Casework administration
  • Responding to internal and external enquiries and keeping a log of actions
  • Engage professionally and with care and integrity with members of the public
  • Undertake constituency visits and Westminster meetings
  • Update of MP website and social media, review of local media articles
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing of basic correspondence
  • Administration of email and written communications
  • Assisting other members of staff where needed

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

Interest in politics and sympathy for the policies and approach of the Conservative Party
Willingness to learn, flexible in approach and open to new ideas
Polite and respectful manner, the role will involve interaction with constituents
Articulate with a good written style and IT skills
Appreciation of the importance of good record keeping and clear communication
Trustworthy, reliable, and motivated to work independently
